Summary:
The Distribution Center Inbound Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all inbound operations within automated (goods to person) distribution center. This role involves managing the efficient and accurate receipt, storage, and replenishment of inventory. The manager will lead a team of supervisors, leads, and associates to ensure timely and organized flow of goods into the warehouse, while maintaining high standards of productivity, quality, and safety.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership:
- Direct and manage all inbound operations, including receiving, put-away, and replenishment processes.
- Ensure the timely and accurate processing of all inbound shipments to maintain inventory levels and support outbound operations.
- Develop and implement operational procedures and policies to enhance productivity, quality, and safety.
Team Management:
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of supervisors, leads, and associates to achieve performance objectives.
- Foster a positive work environment, promoting teamwork, employee engagement, and open communication.
- Monitor team performance, providing regular feedback and conducting performance evaluations.
Inventory Management:
- Ensure the accurate receipt and recording of all inbound shipments, maintaining up-to-date inventory records.
- Collaborate with inventory control teams to conduct regular cycle counts and audits, resolving discrepancies promptly to mitigate incomplete orders and mis-ships.
- Optimize space utilization within the warehouse, ensuring efficient layout and storage of products.
Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and reduce operational costs.
- Utilize data and metrics to drive decision-making and track progress on key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Collaborate with other departments, including outbound, inventory control, and customer service, to streamline processes and resolve issues.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies, promoting a culture of safety within inbound operations.
- Conduct regular safety audits, training sessions, and emergency preparedness drills.
- Address any safety incidents or concerns promptly and thoroughly.
Supplier and Vendor Management:
- Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to schedule inbound deliveries, ensuring timely receipt of goods.
- Address and resolve any issues related to inbound shipments, such as discrepancies or damaged goods.
- Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors to support continuous improvement in the inbound process.
Budget and Resource Management:
- Manage labor, equipment, and supply budgets for inbound operations.
- Optimize resource allocation to achieve cost-effective operations.
- Prepare and present reports on operational performance, budget adherence, and improvement initiatives.
Required: Education, Skills, Abilities and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree, preferred Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years of experience in distribution center operations, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Experience leading in a large, diverse work force in a dynamic work environment that is driven by accurate and timely (same day) order fulfillment.
- Experience leading and planning DC Operations in automation environment for high volume, multi-channel distributor
- Strong knowledge warehouse management systems (WMS) and other related technologies.
- Excellent leadership, communication, delegation and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to manage and motivate teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience driving a culture of safety and continuous improvement using Lean methodologies
Working Conditions:
The job will be performed entirely in a warehouse where conditions can range from warm to cool. The job will be performed in a shared office. Will work around warehouse machines and equipment with a moderate level of noise.
